Local Answers For Universal Questions

I’ve been catching up on some past articles dealing with localism in places like Santa Cruz, Jordan River and the Hawaii Islands. I started to think about all of the stories I’ve heard about localism here in Nova Scotia. First it was the local fishermen in the 60′s and 70′s looking to scare off the first generation of Nova Scotia surfers. They stayed, bought up land and settled in. This place has been growing ever since.
There’s so many more surfers in the water so how do we make people aware of surf etiquette? Is localism an answer to regulate the waters and keep breaks safe? Is it a problem that’s going to warden off the growth of the next generation?
Most other surf communities have already hit their stride where ours is just now growing. What does that mean to the structure of our culture and our hidden breaks?
What do you think about the attention Nova Scotia gets in magazines, about the films and photographs shot here. These are things I want to explore, something to think about over the next little while.
For everyone who has contributed so far, thanks. If you’d like to please do.
If there is no post tomorrow I apologize, my home computer is temporarily in a coma. We’re hoping he wakes up!
Cheers
Mike
