The end of winter, and the beginning of spring usually means only two things to surfers in Nova Scotia. Terrible wave conditions and the NorEaster Surf Classic. And this year the lineup for the annual will be stacked with talented locals looking for spots on the ISA world games teams.

Click on the link below to see a rundown of this years contestants, last years winners and a few people to look out for. Our thanks to SANS for publishing the list!

Boys under 16
1. Isaac Norman
2. Connor Marsh

Last year they were one two with Connor edging out Isaac in the last few minutes of their final. Then they traded places in the September Storm. It’s a coin toss, heads or tails!

Girls under 18
1. Brittany Parker

I’ll take Brittany!

Boys under 18
Heat 1
1. Sam McKenna
2. Connor Marsh
3. Mike Gatzky

Heat 2
1. Taylor Connolly
2. Leigh Mitchell
3. Oliver Hathaway
4. Ben Woodford

Heat 3
1. Tom Hudson
2. Isaac Norman
3. Richard Macaulay
4. Andrew Crouse

Since Keegan Day is surfing with the big guns now, this contest is wide open. After Sam’s showing in the September Storm men’s amateur class and seeing him work it in Hurricane Noel, I gotta say, I like this kid! This one promises to be exciting.

Women’s Longboard
1. Kim Childs
2. Beth Amiro
3. Amy Schwartz

I don’t know too much about Amy Schwartz, and I haven’t seen Beth in competition but I’m glad to see her there. Kim Childs took second in the September Storm, with dominant female longboarder Michelle Richards taking first. I’ll play it safe, Kim it is!

Women’s Shortboard
Heat 1
1. Julie Forbes
2. Simone Prinsenberg
3. Patricia Martins

Heat 2
1. Kim Childs
2. Susie Cargill
3. Amy Schwartz

Heat 3
1. Janine Strickland
2. Beth Amiro
3. Brittany Parker

I’m sentimental…it’s Julie’s anticipated return after having her and Scotty’s little girl, I’m taking the new mommy!

Open Longboard
Heat 1
1. Neal Durling
2. Chis Wagner
3. Glen McDuff
4. Sal Haidar

Heat 2
1. Dean Petty
2. Ian Jackson
3. Nick Fralic
4. Cory Barrington

Last year it was Petty, Wagner and Durling in that respective order. I think two and three swap this year but look out for Glen McDuff. I’d love to see Paul Camilleri make the trip down for this, the original longboarding Nova Scotian (alright Australian transplant…he’s a Maritimer now!)

Men’s Open
Heat 1
1. Steve Foley
2. Mayles Baldwin
3. Justen Cormier
4. Aaron Quinn

Heat 2
1. Nico Manos
2. Evan Radisic
3. Luke Godin
4. Andrew Crouse

Heat 3
1. Dean Petty
2. Andrew Tremanie
3. Keegan Day
4. John Fluke

Heat 4
1. Neal Durling
2. Chris Wagner
3. Sam Mckenna
4. Oliver Hathaway

Heat 5
1. Marty King
2. Brad Whynot
3. Enoch Wu
4. Ben Woodford

Heat 6
1. Justin Huston
2. Logan Landry
3. Nick Fralic
4. Mike Gatzky

Heat 7
1. Lance Moore
2. Ben Marsh
3. Daniel Bartlett
4. Tyler Belec

Heat 8
1. JD Patterson
2. Glen McDuff
3. Taylor Connolly
4. Cory Barrington

It’s just too stacked. Nico of course is on the top of my list. It’s like watching fireworks every time he paddles out. I’m not making the call though…but I will say this. I’m excited to see all these young guns who are stepping up to the plate. There’s some talented young bucs that are showing up, and some veterans that I’m sure will make them work for every wave they can muster. Let’s just hope the waves are better than the previous two years. If so this one will be one hell of a show. See you at the beach March 28th or April 4th weekend.

Janine, you’ve been away for a while right? Can’t wait to see you rip!
